type of 2009 (and one from before)

Narziss
Designed by Hubert Jocham, flamboyant and whimsical.

We Love Nature
PICTURE FONT! Designed by sisters Nicole & Petra Kapitza

Memoriam
Originally designed for New York Times Magazine by Patrick Griffin.

According to Pentagram's What Type Are You? (password: character) my type is emotional, understated, traditional and disciplined. And occasionally assertive rather than understated. It's true. And I like high contrast, sinuous typefaces such as those above.

Another beauty designed in the 1950's by John Pistilli, Pistilli Roman:

for those who demand that things be in order and then are always incredibly moved when they are.

free fonts that don't suck

What's the deal with Papyrus? I'm not talking about its quality, rather, its ubiquity. It seems to pop up everywhere, most often in yoga studios and shops that sell incense and tarot cards. And so I'm wondering, of all the unreadable system fonts out there, why do people love Papyrus?

If Papyrus is not on your computer but you wish it was, download it for $26 here.

If you want some FREE fonts that are worth downloading (mixed with some that are not) go here.

blackwhitegold

While enjoying the monthly Los Angeles Art Walk last week, I stumbled upon a wall of almost exclusively black and white collages/paintings that I'm still thinking about after returning to DC. Juxtaposing industrial objects such as windmills and sky scrapers with nature, Patrick Haemmerlein designs his work fusing photographs of LA (where he currently resides) and of his hometown in upstate New York.

Also bought a real black oak leaf dipped in gold to wear around my neck.

Dear Baltimore, I miss you even though I don't like you.
